Sir- I write to thank Mr/Ms Hemming, for the comments about the loss of all the trees near the Ketch traffic island. I too was appalled to see the sudden scene of destruction along this stretch of road. I think we all can appreciate that 'progress' entails some loss of decorative greenery and scenic roadsides, but this certainly seems to be wholesale ruin of a very picturesque part of our neighbourhood. I was particularly saddened to see that even the trees in the centre of the traffic island had been removed. What could be the reason for that? It seems that trees and bushes are cleared regardless of their being in the way of work carried out. Incidentally, I use this road too, and, as a local driver, I would rather be held up for five minutes and be surrounded by attractive scenery, than save five minutes travelling to my destination. I believe that with better planning, we might have the best of both worlds. There certainly does not seem to be any care or consideration gi ven by planners to the finer things in this ever faster and more furious world of the motor car.
