SIR - I would like to add comment on the Worcester unitary authority debate.
As I have said previously in this newspaper, Gateshead Metropolitan Council was formed in the North-East many years ago by dissolving all of the district councils. The idea was to save money.
However, fast-forward to today and this Labour dinosaur now boasts one of the highest council tax levels in the country after London.
Bear in mind that the area it covers is one of the most deprived parts of the country with many people struggling to pay their council tax bills, especially pensioners who either pay it or eat. I know, my mother is one of them.
Also, accountability has gone out of the window. It will cost money, and remember it will cost jobs. Jobs that your sons daughters, husbands, and wives are doing now.
So be very afraid of another call for a unitary authority for Worcester. It will cost you all money in the long term, you mark my words.
Bill Davison, St John's, Worcester.
