SIR – Having been informed by your article that we have the only Asparamancer in the world, l eagerly read the predictions for the forthcoming year.

Can l suggest that next year our Asparamancer throws the spears a little higher into the air.

Having digested what awaits us I was reminded of John Cleese’s infamous line in Fawlty Towers: “Stating the Bleeding Obvious.”
