SIR - With reference to H Davies' recent letter regarding a pedestrian crossing outside Sainsbury's (Letters, December 6).
I live about 75 yards from where this crossing is supposed to be installed and I have lived here since 1976, at just about the same time that the store was constructed.
We have been trying to get a crossing ever since.
From experience over the years, the only times that this crossing has been mentioned is in May, just before the local elections.
When the knock comes on the door I always ask about the crossing and when will it be installed. Councillors Clayton and Buckley have always said that it could be "next year". Next year is like tomorrow, it never comes.
When there was a hospital at Ronkswood, there was a pedestrian crossing installed there. Now that the hospital has gone the crossing has become redundant, would it not be possible to dismantle and move it to Windermere Drive, where it would be put to good use at a fraction of the cost of purchasing expensive equipment.
