SIR - Is there anyone on Worcestershire County Council with the slightest interest in preserving the environment and village life?

Coun Derek Prodger, council cabinet member for environmental services, says a waste sorting centre at Woodbury Lane, Norton, is "ideal" because it is close to the M5. He ignores several facts: l It would also be within 150 yards of a residential nursing home.

l It would be 100 yards from the nearest houses.

l It would be virtually shoe-horned into a site in the middle of villages and a school.

l Such a site would blight the whole area with the inevitable fallout of smell, flies and general unhealthy pollution.

Coun Prodger clearly was not wearing his environmental hat when he declared Woodbury Lane the ideal site.

The county council is all set to bulldoze through their own planning application - an application which states that no environmental study was deemed necessary.
