SIR - You recently revealed that Wychavon District Council is banning smoking in the grounds outside all its buildings.
I wonder if its next move is to ban smoking in parks, streets, or even our own gardens? Does this mean when smoking is banned inside pubs and clubs Wychavon's licensing policy will be refusal of outside smoking facilities applications?
Councillors should do jobs they were elected to do, such as building Droitwich the new health centre promised eight years ago, restoring our lido to a proper swimming pool, reopening Droitwich canals promised every election for 32 years, enforcing planning conditions - the Saltway supermarket should not have it's glaring white roof or UPVC cladding.
Less than a quarter of the electorate voted for a national government only planning partial smoking separation in enclosed premises.
Even fewer voted for local councillors who never mentioned complete anti-smoking segregation in election promises.
But more than a third of adults smoke after so much bigoted rhetoric because it's their choice.
I hope those disenfranchised by puritanical edicts of a tiny minority turn out at May's local elections to oust the PC brigade and sack their petty minded little jobsworths. Then we can employ councillors and officers to do tasks we pay council taxes for - maintaining schools, caring for our old folks, and putting bobbies on the beat.
Mark R Heel, Droitwich.
