SIR – Reading the Daily Mail the other morning horrified me. January 1 sees the Shengen treaty come into force, allowing Bulgarians and Romanians the freedom to enter the UK.

Are you in for a shock! Both countries are openly corrupt and the poorest in Europe.

At present we see nothing but cutbacks. The money saved will probably be used to pay benefits to our incoming guests, who have already been briefed by various websites.

They have no national health service and no pension system, so what that alone will cost the taxpayer is hard to comprehend.

The politicians were warned, but as in the case of Greece, decided to turn a blind eye, eventually leaving the taxpayers to pick up the bill – they have no choice.

What can be said is that one of the most dangerous institutions in Europe is Brussels. It’s not their money, why should they care.
