SIR – It would be good if once in a while Tom Edwards (Fair Point) gets his facts right.

He is stating that we should not mess about with the clocks in autumn and therefore keep the light nights but can I remind him that in fact in autumn we are putting the clocks as they should be. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

It is in spring that we change the clocks from where they should be to Daylight Saving Time.

So if we never changed the clocks at all then we would be exactly where we are now anyway.
