SIR – Re: the letter dated Thursday, October 24, from local tradesman Shaun Cox.
Perhaps Worcester City Council could have a permit system in place that local sole traders could apply for every 12 months to allow them to carry out their work in the more difficult places to access, as long as they can prove that they have equipment etc that they need in their job?
They could pay a fee for this permit and live within the city boundary, thereby supporting our local tradespeople with work in the city. Enforcement officers can then check the permit is valid and that the tradesman is actually working nearby, even have a dedicated phone number for the permit office so they can update them on where they are working that day. This could then be checked by the enforcement officer if they can’t see them or perhaps BID wardens could oblige ?
In today’s employment climate we should encourage those who work hard and help a little way to easing the burden of small businesses .
As long as tradesmen saw this as a privilege and not a right to park anywhere causing blockages I’m sure we could all rub along merrily!
