SIR – I noticed in your paper on Monday a chap doing OcSober, giving up booze for a month (pictured left). I too am giving up the ale for a month, for another worthy cause – Go Sober for October, for MacMillan Cancer Support.
I am doing this in memory of my mum Sue, who died of cancer 10 years ago (https://www.gosober.org.uk/profile/mochrumdunbar), as I felt it was about time I raised money for such a worthy cause.
I am trying to raise £500, and have raised £65 so far, so a bit of a way to go! Once I have done this, I will be looking to do a sponsored walk, then a sponsored run over the next 12 months.
I think it's great that unusual ways of raising money are becoming more prominent, like OcSober, Go Sober, Stoptober and Movember, and I just hope I reach my target! Cheers!
