SIR – Why does it seem that the Government is hell-bent on a witch hunt of the unemployed?
Not all unemployed are happy with the outcome and want a life on benefits, many actually want to work and have some pride.
Making unemployed people pick up litter for a little over £50 a week makes a mockery of the minimum wage and most would have paid their National Insurance all their working lives for times like these when they will need financial support. If there is work to be found in the community, why can it not be found for people ready to earn a wage?
Community work is given out by the courts for those who have broken the law.
Which law have the jobless broken? Will our European cousins be given a pair of plastic gloves and bag to pick up litter when they step off the bus?
I doubt it very much, yet many of these will claim benefits and milk the system.
