SIR – Something must be done about the BBC monopoly. There should be a channel with no adverts and have some competition with the BBC and the one that turns out the best programmes should have the lion’s share of the licence fee.
As things stand now, most BBC programmes have slipped to the worst standard of trashy programmes on the other channels .
The Government should step in and stop any price increase in the licence fee, or even reduce it and make the BBC use the licence fee to make decent programmes.
