SIR – There is, of course, the question of losing more open space if Worcester City FC had a new stadium at Perdiswell, but there need not be a traffic problem.

Schools are closed at match times and if the bend by the tip was widened and straightened and the junction at Bilford Road with Astwood Road made safe for pedestrians (both items that should have been attended to years ago) traffic problems would be better than at present.

At ‘The Lane’ City were lucky to get gates of between 300 to 600, yet St George’s Lane coped quite well with the traffic despite the narrow roads in the area.

The days when sports fans supported their team through thick and thin have gone.

Due to the motorway people can travel quickly to wherever they wish.

Worcestershire County Cricket Club and Sixways are good examples as both have first class grounds, yet their attendances are governed not by loyal support but by results.

If Worcester’s football club is to return to the city it will only survive if the ground is close to the city centre and Perdiswell would be a far better bet than at Nunnery Wood.
