SIR – The Jarman Report comparing the NHS unfavourably with medical care in the the US did not include the millions of Americans who don’t have access to medical care.
Also, patients in US hospitals tend to be higher income-earners who would have a better chance of survival as they are in a better state of health to begin with.
The US also spends considerably more on health care.
Furthermore, the life expectancy in the US is 78 while in the UK it is 79, suggesting the NHS might be doing a better job.
