SIR – So Prince William has decided to leave the RAF early and not complete his training as a pilot.
However, his decision to leave military service and join the family business has left the nation with a huge bill. He now owes the taxpayer £400,000 for quitting early as a helicopter pilot.
Search-and-rescue pilots such as William have to agree to stay in service for six years if they are accepted for the £800,000 training course.
The Ministry of Defence claims it is rare for a pilot to leave early but demands for a payback depend on circumstances.
However, on this occasion the RAF have decided to write off the bill in the interests of the nation.
Why would they write off such a large bill and what special circumstances does Prince William have?
Like the rest of us he should pay up, not rely on his position and status to avoid the money he owes.
He clearly has the ability to pay. Once again the Royal Family is demonstrating that we are not all in it together.
