SIR – Apart possibly from councillors Derek Prodger and Richard Udall and a small band of worshippers of the anti-car doctrine; will many mourn the demise of park and ride in Worcester?
It has been a costly exercise for council tax payers from which we can only hope that the lesson has been learnt that it simply hasn’t worked and must never be repeated.
If Mr Prodger really believed that park and ride was a radical attempt to get the city moving as reported (Worcester News, August 23) he was sadly misguided and should have abandoned his vision long before so much money was wasted.
An executive or director in private industry who made such a catastrophic mess of managing their business would be dismissed and yet it seems the executive and elected members of town and county halls act with impunity and are seldom brought to book for their failures.
Perhaps from the passing of park and ride will come a new beginning for a second radical attempt to get the traffic moving by getting rid of the unwanted bus lanes and having a cull of unnecessary traffic lights and other restrictions to traffic flow.
