SIR – Re your story ‘Make more of history for future of tourism’ (Worcester News, September 9).

Who says nobody promotes Worcester?

Sixteen years ago, the Worcester Tourism Association promoted the idea of setting up training for professional tour guides for Worcester.

The scheme was a great success and 10 fully-trained and qualified green badge guides started operating as Worcester Walks in 2000.

This group has since provided Guided Tours of Worcester, starting from the Guildhall every morning at 11am Monday to Saturday from Easter to October.

I wonder why Councillor Richard Udall has never been aware of this activity.

At least the What’s On section of the Worcester News does acknowledge us.

We bring groups from around the country and beyond to experience an entertaining walk around the city.

The groups can include American choirs and Chinese students, etc.

We have recently won a contract with Great Rail Journeys of York to bring groups to Worcester next summer on 10 dates.

We do everything we can to promote our city, but get no help from the city or county councils. In fact we have to pay the Tourism Information Centre 10 per cent to promote our city attractions.

Perhaps Mr Udall would like to come on one of our walks.

We include: the Battle of Worcester, Elgar, King John and many more themed walks.

Visit worcesterwalks.co.uk for more information.

We also offer illustrated talks on many subjects in an effort to bring people into Worcester.

This has been very successful and we have bookings up to December 2014 from many different clubs and societies around the county.

So please don’t say nothing is being done Mr Udall.
