SIR – I stand by my claim that there is confusion between the names of the election areas of ‘Wardnon Parish’ and ‘Gorse Hill and Warndon’, as outlined in the story (Worcester News, August 17).
I heed the comments of those who believe there is no need for change, though I think it’s ironic that when expressing their opinions they tend to use the names ‘Old Warndon’ and ‘Warndon Villages’ – neither of which exist on a map but might be suitable names for adoption.
Those who questioned my motives should consider what has happened recently to the Warndon Parish play area at Howcroft Green (Worcester News, September 6).
Here local residents and their children have lost their much-loved play equipment without prior consultation, which was all due to a mix- up in locations.
Council workers got mixed up and consequently failed to speak to the parish council or appropriate local councillors.
Instead they consulted the city councillors of Gorse Hill who must have been equally confused because they didn’t respond.
The outcome was that play equipment was ripped out before anyone could object.
This destruction might have continued had it not been for alert residents and the actions of Councillor Steve Hodgson.
How can I criticise the council workers who got things wrong or councillors who failed to act when this was an error waiting to happen?
Instead I reiterate that ‘Warndon Parish’ is an inappropriate name for an election division which stretches from the new houses being built on the old Ronkswood Hospital site off Newtown Road to junction 6 of the M5 motorway.
Worcestershire county councillor, Warndon Parish
