SIR – Re the uncertain future of our city’s park and ride systems in Perdiswell and Sixways, with figures showing that neither site is attracting much support from the public and both are making a loss (Worcester News, August 28).
When the proposals were first revealed by the then Labour-controlled council, the plans showed plans to tarmac over playing fields on Perdiswell Park to create the park and ride site.
I attended two protesting, full-house public meetings at the Guildhall.
We were informed, despite the huge cost involved, that this would benefit all by reducing the amount of traffic flow entering our city.
Since that time, what have we witnessed?
Following the demise of the old cattle market and the redevelopment of St Martin’s Gate, more parking spaces have been created – Worcester City Council alone is operating 14 car parks.
The new Worcester transport strategy includes real-time electronic information boards at bus stops.
Will these replace the realtime electronic information guiding motorists into city centre parking spaces?
