SIR – ‘Shortage of decent housing unacceptable’ said the headline on Joy Squires’ letter (Worcester News, August 28).
What a pity Labour didn’t think of this when they were in government.
Here we have a wannabe Labour MP putting the boot in over the “shortage of decent affordable housing”, blithely ignoring the fact that Labour did much to create today’s housing market.
Labour had our embassies around the world carry invitiations to come to Britain and work.
The result was an unprecedented flood of millions of people coming to our country.
Labour even estimated that the number of Polish who would come to our country at 13,000... then a million arrived. I think the way our last Labour government treated Labour voters – including me – was disgraceful.
What sort of political party brings millions of foreigners to our country and demands they be given equal opportunity of employment and social housing, which effectively results in Labour depriving its own supporters of almost two million job opportunities, together with the tenancies of half a million ‘council’ homes?
Still, if you can promise the electorate a referendum on Europe, then turn up in the dead of night after everybody else has gone home to sign the instrument to surrender knowing you are breaking a solemn promise given to the electorate I suppose it’s small beer to ignore your party’s part in the plight of jobless and homeless Labour voters.
