SIR – Worcester’s NHS commissioners are to be commended in pioneering a scheme where GPs attend with paramedics on 999 calls (Worcester News, August 27).
It costs £21,000 a month to run but £500,000 has been saved in under a year because 80 per cent of patients are now seen by their GP and only 20 per cent admitted to A&E.
So good is the scheme that other parts of the country are now following Worcester’s lead, and eventually the NHS could save millions of pounds overall.
