SIR – Worcestershire County Council has at last accepted that park and ride is losing money because drivers are not patronising it (Worcester News, August 27).

Bus lanes are useless as too few passengers ride on public transport.

Most car owners, despite high fuel taxes, etc, prefer to park as close to their destination as possible.

Some are so lazy that they even drive their vehicles merely to pick up a newspaper a few streets away.

So Worcester is left with two alternatives: First, carry on regardless and accept the consequences – in other words bury our heads in the sand.

Second, arrange for a proper ring road complete with river bridges where necessary to keep as many vehicles out of the city centre as possible.

The Government insists we build more and more houses but these only increase the traffic problem by on average two more cars per house.

Surely they should at least part-finance a proper ring road as our roads just cannot cope with many more vehicles.
