SIR – Following the current concerns about our high street shops and their difficulties in surviving, I was somewhat stunned by my recent experience.
Struggling to buy a pair of shoes in my size, four of the five shops I tried were unable to order shoes I liked in my size, apparently because of company policy.
They suggested I go online and order directly from the manufacturers.
Ultimately this is what I did. I ordered the size I needed and with free postage and packing.
Having had a similar experience with trying to get particular CDs and DVDs, it seems to me that the companies behind these shops are not doing our high streets any favours.
I would prefer to buy directly from the shops but if they are unable to provide what I want and unable to order it, inevitably, I will shop online.
