SIR – It is inevitable that unless a solution is found to stop idiots throwing missiles from motorway bridges a fatality is on the cards.
A slap on the wrist is just a joke and is not the answer to the problem as the failure of the Asbo has proved.
So what is the answer? I know that as the law stands at the moment, my suggestion is not possible – more is the pity – but a taste of the birch would be quite a significant deterrent.
Also make the parents of the culprits liable for any financial losses incurred by the victims.
I was in the Army during the war and one of the lads I served with had a taste of the birch when he was 14.
He said when you have had the birch you do not want second helpings.
It is time we started to make the punishment fit the crime.
