SIR – I have recently undergone total knee replacement surgery and as a result my mobility is severely limited at present – hopefully this will be resolved shortly.
This limited mobility obviously affects all aspects of daily living.
One thing which would greatly help the situation would be a temporary (and I stress temporary) disabled permit – say for three months.
I have contacted the appropriate department at Worcester City Council and was told that there was no facility for supplying such a permit.
I was told I would have to apply for a full permit which I understand involves completing quite an extensive questionnaire, providing a photograph, etc.
Would it not be possible for the surgeons who perform knee and hip replacement surgery to have a supply of temporary permits which they could sign and date and give to patients such as myself?
I would add that I know of a case of a lady in Bristol who had hip replacement surgery last year and was granted a full disabled parking permit valid for three years with virtually no questions asked.
