SIR – As an ex-pat born and bred in the Faithful City, I was saddened to hear about the demise of Worcester City Football Club and to see how dilapidated the St George’s Lane ground had become.
The grainy film shown on television of City beating Liverpool in the FA Cup in 1959 brought back fond memories as I was there.
In addition,I spent many more happy hours cheering on the heroes of the day whose names have been erased from my mind by the ravages of time.
The names of the many pals who I went to the games with over the years, however, remain firmly in my mind and I wish them well.
However, for Worcester to be reduced to having to play on Kidderminster Harriers’ ground in order to be able to continue is unbelievable.
It would have been a fate worse than death in our day.
I do hope that they are able to find a generous benefactor so that the club can be resurrected before it’s too late. Best of luck to all concerned.
