SIR – What a shame that Tony Willmore’s friends from Southampton had to be subjected to hold-ups in Castle Street due to pedestrians (Worcester News, April 23).
Southampton was unlucky to be blitzed in the Second World War but gained a modern road system as a result.
This no doubt shelters pedestrians from the roar of modern traffic.
Worcester, however, though escaping the bombing, is still trying to cope with a Cromwellian road system, which originally had far more pedestrians than cars and should be respected accordingly.
