SIR – Re the article about dog poo bags being left at the canal towards Diglis in Worcester from Perdiswell (Worcester News, April 24).
Isn’t the problem simply that there aren’t enough dog waste bins?
There’s a limit to how long many people will carry anything which needs to go in the bin.
Littering is wrong whatever you drop, but more bins would help.
There’s one point which I feel very strongly that the Worcester News should make.
Yes, dog poo carries all sorts of nasty things and should always be cleaned up.
While it would, of course, be dreadful to lose one’s sight due to these worms, 10 people out of a population of about 60 million is hardly the epidemic that some people try to claim.
Also, most importantly, why is it always said that the worms are carried by dogs?
Foxes and cats also carry round worms. Cats use other people’s gardens as a toilet, so there is far more chance of catching worms from cats than dogs. Cats also carry toxoplasmosis – a parasite which only breeds in a cat’s stomach. It can cause miscarriages, organ failure and even death. So why do dogs always get all the blame?
