SIR – Oh dear. What a pity Peter Nielsen feels the need to use his latest political home in the Green Party to attack others ‘Are allowances the motivating factor?’ (Worcester News, April 18).
Since he is attempting to besmirch my name,I suppose I had better respond to defend myself.
Mr Nielsen has never had any conversation with me and so has no idea about my motivations for standing as a city or county councillor.
I originally put myself forward as a Labour Party candidate because I was so angry at the Tory-led government attack on our beloved NHS.
The real rewards of public service as a councillor, for me, are the opportunities to make a difference to people’s lives and our city.
Helping solve people’s problems, sharing concerns and ideas and working with others to build a better future – that is what motivates me.
That is why I now, willingly, spend seven days a week, responding to phone calls and e-mails, attending meetings, listening to people, trying to find answers and move obstacles.
Speaking up for people, making their voice heard and achieving change for the better is why I am involved in local politics.
LYNN DENHAM
Labour councillor, Cathedral ward, Worcester City Council; Labour candidate, Riverside division, Worcestershire County Council
