SIR – Margaret Thatcher was like marmite, people either loved her or hated her.

For all the doings of her Government that rubbed people up the wrong way, you had to admire her strength in taking on and giving the ‘enemy’ a bloody nose.

She was the last politician to put the ‘great’ back into Britain, something most would like to see from the limp leaders who have ruled since.

She taught Argentina a lesson and she took on the IRA terrorists.

She saved the country from the brink of bankruptcy after the dreadful rule of Labour under the leadership of Harold Wilson and James Calllaghan.

When she left number 10, Britain was prosperous. We had paid back nearly everything we owed and had great respect from countries around the world.

She was far from a saint, and had many enemies, but even they would have respected such a strong leader – something this country has lacked ever since.
