SIR – In 1963 (Mike Grundy’s column, March 11), the pessimism of the “City Fathers” was grossly unfounded in their concern that there were only a handful of swans on the Severn.
In 1973 property values had “gazumped” to the degree that estate houses were selling between £8,000 and £15,000. There wouldn’t be much problem obtaining a mortgage today on those prices.
