SIR – I thought Worcester News readers might be interested in a photo, above, taken in 1955 at the High Street shop of Singer Sewing Machines.
This was opposite the original Russell and Dorrell department store and in recent years has been Wallis.
I cannot remember the name of the lady in the photo but she taught us to use the electric sewing machines.
The girls pictured are: back row, from left, Hazel Reece, Marilyn Deakin, unknown; middle row, from left, Suzanne Price (myself); front row from left, Jennifer (I can’t remember the surname) and Elizabeth Barber.
Singer advertised for girls interested in sewing to go along for some extra tuition and I’m sure this helped us all as we were about to start at secondary school.
