SIR – Worcester sleepwalks towards Article 4 blissfully unaware of its negative impact.
It is a draconian measure intended to curb student accommodation by limiting the number of houses of multiple occupancy (HMO) within the private rented sector and our council have approved its introduction across the entire city.
However, it has some very negative unintended consequences, as seen by cities that have already adopted it.
Firstly, it reduces the number of HMOs which pushes up rents affecting those who can least afford it.
Secondly, it has reduced house prices by up to 30 per cent.
The long-term impact on housing and the economy can be devastating.
People of Worcester need to wake up and oppose this measure before the consultation period ends on April 19.
We do not have much time.
