SIR – The Tories are trying desperately to introduce a bedroom tax.
David Cameron insists it’s not a tax but whatever he calls it, it’s still taking money from the poorest people.
It was the Tory government [under Margaret Thatcher] who introduced the policy to sell council houses and these weren’t replaced so that is part of the problem.
Now a lot of people are forced to go into properties in the private sector and this is a blessing to the greedy landlords who pushed up the prices as high as possible.
The Government should bring back the fair rental policy and housing associations should be forced to bring down their rents.
They have pushed their rents far too high.
The obvious thing is for the Government to introduce a building programme with lots of one-bedroom homes because there are more people living on their own.
