SIR – Mr [David] Cameron has said that he is not moving the Conservative party to the right, as he is determined to hold the centre “common ground”.

Mr Cameron’s idea of the common ground is: e Gay marriage e Concreting over the green belt e Wind farms e Secret courts (am I allowed to say that?) e House of Lords reform (more jobs for the rich boys) e Protecting NHS incompetents who oversaw thousands of unnecessary deaths e Run down of our armed forces e Increasing foreign aid (ie, boosting Swiss bank accounts) e Reducing state benefits for the most needy e Increasing immigration with benefits available to all e Building a new railway system – HS2 – that will only benefit the rich boys e Trying to start another war in Syria e Assisting France in Mali e Slavishly adhering to Europe rule from Brussels, while pretending to claw back powers.

I guess I’m not in the common ground and perhaps this common ground perception explains why the Tories came third in the recent by-election in Eastleigh.
