SIR – Liberal Democrats must take a look in the mirror admits [Nick] Clegg.
Is that because of their undying support for the EU?
Or is it because Ed Davey, the Lib Dem Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, is oblivious to the national energy crisis now heading our way?
Or that the giant Drax power station in Yorkshire, which currently burns coal – a fuel that the UK has plenty of – and produces seven per cent of all electricity used in the UK, is to be converted at a cost of £700 million to burn wood chips which have to be imported from America?
So we will be reliant on France for electricity generated by nuclear power stations, gas imported from Russia and now wood chips from America.
Germany, China and India are building coal-fired power stations as fast as they can.
I hope that when, as forecast, the lights start to go out in Britain, those responsible will volunteer to sit in the cold and the dark.
