SIR – Over the years Parliament has descended from being the bedrock of society to, in the words of Cathy Newman, of Channel 4, a public school full of teenagers.

One need only catch a glimpse of Question Time in the House of Commons to appreciate the validity of this statement.

[David] Cameron emitting more hot air than the average burner, Ed Balls doing a passable take of Billy Bunter of Greyfriars plus the accompanying baying pack and there you have it.

We have a country in disarray with no answer to the overwhelming problems: e Dilatory, never-ending proclamations from the EU; e The judiciary overruling the Home Secretary at every opportunity quoting human rights; e Crime on the increase – police on the decrease.

If Mr Cameron is unable to get a grip, with a bit more action instead of waffle, then I suggest he step down and leave the post to a more able person.
