SIR – Further to my letter regarding the costing of the proposed new swimming pool for Worcester (Worcester News, March 1), I feel that the public could well be hoodwinked into believing that a six-lane pool is the only affordable option.
Four per cent interest on £7 million (option one) would amount to £280,000 interest in the first year as opposed to £400,000 on option two.
Over 40 years the so-called cheaper version would cost ratepayers several million pounds more in interest.
Surely a way can be found with sponsorship, lottery funding, grants, etc, to enable an eight-lane, county standard pool to be constructed and a sports centre that would be a credit to the city?
