SIR – After much deliberation Ifeel that I have to reply to Richard Udall’s letter ‘Be warned, they’re still the nasty party’ (Worcester News, February 5).

Firstly, the Labour Government in the last 20 years has meant great ‘danger’ to the people of the UK.

When Mr Udall’s party [Labour] was in government, it left us in dire straits with the massive burden of debt we all have to pay off for years and even generations to come.

Then it told us to buy our way out of recession – how stupid.

When you have maxed out on your credit cards you have to stop eventually and start paying it back. Basic economics.

The Labour government then plundered our pension pots, sold off much of our gold reserves and raised council tax many times over.

It also extended the welfare system where you are rewarded for doing little or nothing while those of us who have worked all our lives seem to get nothing in return from the system when in need.

Our children now have to pay for a university education whereas [Tony] Blair and his cronies had theirs paid for free by us.

In addition [Gordon] Brown and mr Blair carried out a social engineering project to destroy our national identity by allowing millions of immigrants into the country which put additional strain on our social welfare system, jobs and hospitals.

They talked an awful lot about Britishness and British jobs for British people.

Then they promised us (twice) that we would have a referendum vote on Europe (which is costing us billions every month) and failed to allow us to do so.

So, I’m afraid, Mr Udall, whether it’s Old Labour or New Labour, there’s ‘danger’ for the people of this country.
