SIR – It seems that the Government has finally realised the disgrace and humiliation that is inflicted on the poor all over the world.

Some MPs have even commented that in Europe the poor are treated far worse that their counterparts here in the UK.

Thank goodness this tragedy is being stopped.

It’s good to see that the Government is now working tirelessly to bring the standards of our poor up to a level of misery enjoyed by many parts of the EU.

No longer will Great Britain be seen as ‘lagging behind’ when it comes to the treatment of its less fortunate.

I believe, with time and the correct fiscal policies, that Parliament could bring our levels of poverty up to a standard that has not been seen since Victorian times.

Unfortunately,Ifear that not all my fellow citizens will understand this new governmental edict.

Perhaps some of our more ‘keener’ politicians could lead by example?
