SIR – I totally agree with your Comment ‘This watered down version isn’t the deal’ in relation to the report by Tom Edwards (Worcester News, February 27) on the two options currently on the council agenda for Worcester’s proposed new swimming pool.
It is scandalous that in a city of this size, our swimmers have to travel to Wolverhampton to compete.
In the cheaper option this handicap would continue.
What happened to all those Government promises at the time of the Olympics, and the Conservatives’ promises at the local elections?
Providing a sponsor can be found, and with lottery funding and other grants, surely the option of an eightlane pool, learner pool, seating, changing facilities together with golf house, all-weather pitches and gym, etc, is worth striving for.
Would a slightly smaller gym help?
Whatever the council decides, please do something before, as usual, the costs escalate, in which case even option one would be out of the question.
