SIR – George Cowley writes in support of the beleaguered Mr Ditta pointing out quite rightly that any of us can lose our temper in the heat of the moment (Worcester News, February 20).

However, not all of us hold public office where intemperate behaviour can demonstrate a lack of judgement undesirable in a public servant, as well as a lack of self-control.

Given that this dispute took place with bereaved members of his own community – presumably already under some emotional strain – then perhaps the level of criticism that has been directed toward him both by the Worcester News and the general public is more understandable.

His own failure to act appropriately and resign in the face of such criticism could be interpreted as yet another politician seeking to hang on to his glorious career and hope the storm will pass.

The fact that he is supported by his own [Conservative] party, who apparently see no connection between his private actions (in this instance undertaken in a very public forum) and his political position says more about the hypocrisy of politicians of all persuasions rather than Mr Ditta’s fitness for public office.
