SIR – There is much talk about whether we should or should not leave the EU.
Many people seem to think that we would sink without trace economically if we left.
I think that if the Government gave us an incentive to buy British goods then we as a nation would prosper beyond our wildest dreams.
Imagine if there was no VAT on any item, big or small, if it were made in the UK. Would people buy foreign goods then?
If foreign companies came to our country and set up factories and businesses bringing much- needed jobs, then their goods would also qualify for zero VAT.
Foreign companies would fall over themselves to set up shop here knowing that their goods would fly off the shelves.
Of course, if you wanted to buy goods produced in other countries then you would pay the extra 20 per cent for the privilege or maybe even increase VAT to 30 per cent.
It would be a win-win situation making the UK once more a prosperous nation with very little unemployment.
Maybe I should stand for election. Would anyone vote for me?
