SIR – I agree with Ray Roberts (Worcester News, January 29) that John Phillpott should look again at the war memorial in Gheluvelt Park.

Yes, it is a load of scrap iron and not like any other memorial of its kind.

Mr Phillpott does have a point (Worcester News, January 26), though one needs to study the inscriptions in order to understand the message.

The effect is more misleading now, though, because the inscriptions of all the dead have become illegible, but I understand that experiments are in hand to replace the names by hand although that will take some time.

I would have preferred the more standard memorial _ and all my friends agree – but the creator’s intentions are unique.

It will still look like scrap iron though.
