SIR – Bob Churchill says same-sex marriage is not a problem (Worcester News, January 21).

He and others are portraying this as no big deal – it is.

This is not about equality under the law nor is it about changing a few words of the law.

The family is the foundation of the community and society, with marriage seen as the most stable form of partnership for having and bringing up children.

Marriage is a union between a man and a woman.

It is also not in need of permission from the State or the Church for its existence.

Is it a good idea for democracy and politicians in general to define morals – but how far will the democratic process go in redefining what constitutes marriage?

So in conclusion, are we talking about just a little technical change in the law or a radical – and to me negative – redefinition of society and morals?
