ONE of Worcester’s most popular charity workers Maggie Pearse has died. She was well known as an energetic and inspirational volunteer in the community, especially for her willingness to engage with and revitalise charities.
Mrs Pearse was three times president of the Inner Wheel Club of Worcester Severn, county president of Worcestershire Federation of Young Farmers, for many years chair of the local Arthritis Research Campaign and was heavily involved in the Women’s Institute and Flower Guild.
She was also a creative florist and arranged flowers in St George’s Military Chapel in Worcester Cathedral, as well as supporting the church in White Ladies Aston and St Leonard’s Church in Boughton Hackett, the village where she lived with husband Gerry.
Born Margaret Burgoyne in 1945 in Tiverton, Devon, Maggie became a keen hockey player while attending secretarial college. She married Gerry Pearse in 1968 and was happily married for more then 40 years until his death in 2016.
Her husband’s work with Lloyds Bank took Maggie to Norfolk, Cambridge and New York, where she worked as a PA. She moved to Worcester in 1988, supporting her husband in his role as area director.
Renowned for her hospitality, Maggie’s many dinner parties were always known for their warmth and generosity. She enjoyed many longstanding friendships and her friends were with her in the last weeks of her illness and when she died.
There will be a thanksgiving service for the life of Maggie Pearse on Wednesday, April 5 in Pershore Abbey at 12.00 noon.
