NEW houses could be built in a village near Worcester despite residents' objections.

Platform Housing Group wants to build the two houses off Queensway in Wichenford.

This is despite concerns from residents that there is not enough infrastructure in the village to cope.

One response from a resident said: "There is not the infrastructure to support anymore properties in the village.

"This has been the reason for denying all other applications for new builds within the village.

"The small cul-de-sac already has issues with vehicles and a high level of traffic which impedes emergency service vehicles.

"Due to the location of access to land adjacent to the access road to the cul-de-sac, construction vehicles, work vehicles and deliveries are likely to severely impair access to existing properties within the cul-de-sac for residents and emergency services.

"There are no shops, schools, doctors, businesses for employment and very limited public transport.

"More properties are not required and Platform Housing should be spending their money on improving their existing stock and reducing their current ridiculously long repairs wait time.

"This is a rural area and should be left untouched by the recent craze of converting the countryside into urban areas."

The plans, currently being examined by Malvern Hills District Council, are to build two houses near the houses in Queensway.

Planning documents say the new houses will actually improve access.

They said: "Active frontages will enhance visual interest and provide natural surveillance over the adjacent area.

"The final planning submission provides a new, attractive scheme designed to respect and reflect the context.

"The site is centrally located in Wichenford, therefore encouraging walking, rather than the use of the private car, thereby reducing the reliance on natural resources.

"Vehicular and pedestrian access onto the site will be taken off Queensway."

Malvern Hills' landscape officer Chris Lewis Farley said he could not support the site, given its impact on the nearby trees.

He wrote: "Although some development on the site may be possible, I would suggest that the development as currently proposed, could not take place without significant harm to the neighbouring tree.

"I do not support development of this site, as currently proposed."
