A NEW playground is coming to a suburb of Droitwich.
Residents met at the play area in the middle of Westlands for a community day, where they worked to clean up the existing equipment, adding a new lick of paint.
They were also able to have their say on what equipment they would like to see in the park in future.
Funding for the future improvements will be provided by Platform Housing and Wychavon District Council.
Platform Housing's community officer Chris Colley said: “This is one of our biggest community projects and we’re really proud of the way in which residents and partners have grasped it with both hands and want to make a real difference in the neighbourhood.
"The Action Plan cements everything we’ve talked about and helps us all with planning what needs to be done and help to keep moving forward.”
Earlier this year, the north side of the neighbourhood was explored by Westlands Residents' Association, Platform, West Mercia Police and Wychavon councillors.
The housing provider's communities team also carried out a survey with residents.
From this, a residents' action plan was developed with an additional contribution from Wychavon District Council following their recent estate summit meeting.
The plan lists the objectives for the issues raised both within the survey and the walkabout, with long, medium- and short-term goals.
One of the areas identified for improvement was the play area in the middle of the neighbourhood, which led to the community day efforts to work on it.
Tony Libetta, chair of the residents association, said: "The residents' group has been working closely with Platform, Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Town Council over the past few months to develop the plan for changes on our estate.
"We are delighted that our identified projects are to begin with the much-needed refurbishment of the children’s play area in the centre and hope that this will just be the first of many changes taken from the plan to be implemented here."
