AN outstanding performance in the UK delivery market by Worcestershire’s TNT Express Services has been rewarded with two top awards.
The express delivery giant, based at Hartlebury Trading Estate, Hartlebury, picked up the honours in the environment and training categories of the Motor Transport Awards – the Oscars of the UK transport sector – taking TNT’s award haul to 26 in 22 years.
In the environment category, the judges praised TNT for its comprehensive approach to environmental issues.
“Being green is a company-wide objective, led from the top,” they said.
They also commended TNT’s ground-breaking initiatives, including the launch of the world’s largest fleet of zero emission electric vehicles, its programme to reduce vehicle mileage and fuel consumption for long-distance lorries, along with a scheme which offers incentives to company car drivers to buy greener cars.
The judging panel was also impressed by the company’s global environmental programme called Planet Me, which is designed to reduce TNT’s carbon footprint worldwide.
The training award recognised TNT’s work at its sortation hubs, where more than 100 million packages and parcels pass through each year.
The TNT initiative succeeded in reducing its lost-time accident rate, improving employee engagement and productivity and reducing staff turnover.
The judging panel was also impressed with the company’s success in reducing absence rates, down by 17.9 per cent yearon- year. Worcester depot general manager Adrian Avery said: “We have delivered yet again another tremendous result, bringing our total number of Motor Transport awards to 26, more than any other transportation organisation in the UK.
“It is particularly satisfying because these two awards endorse our continuous drive for improvement in all that we do and confirms that we are conducting our business in the right fashion.
“We have demonstrated, and will continue to demonstrate how passionate we are about the environment, a prime example being our 100-strong zero emission electric vehicle fleet.
“However, our most important ‘asset’ is our people and the training award is further testimony to our commitment to helping our employees achieve real satisfaction in their roles.”
