WORCESTER Warrior rugby players were given a day of pampering at a spa in Droitwich.

Players were invited by spa owner Veronica Parkes to sample some of the treatments and therapies on offer at the Day Spa, Droitwich.

Warrior stars Rico Gear, Keir Hansen, Drew Hickey, Dale Rasmussen, Tom Wood, Craig Gillies and Pat Sanderson and their partners took time out to undergo some serious relaxing.

The idea behind the sports professional's taster day was for the players to indulge in the range of holistic therapies that can be beneficial to anyone in the often stressful arena of competitive sport.

The players had the chance to mix and match treatments such as a full body aroma massage, Indian head massage or traditional sports massage.

Ms Parkes, who is keen to promote holistic therapies as a way to improve sports performance, said: "The benefits of holistic therapies may vary depending on the individual, but treatments such as massage can definitely help to reduce muscular tension, improve circulation, treat aches and pains which can help to energise and revitalise its recipient. All of these aid concentration and therefore help to enhance performance.

"Massage, of course, is a fairly common treatment adopted by sports professionals for physical wellbeing, but what I'm hoping to achieve by today's taster day is to introduce some of the more unusual therapies, which can de-stress your entire being, body, soul and spirit."

The treatments were carried out by the spa staff, including massage therapist Ellie Jenkins.
